Summary; Chapter 1:

In Chapter 1 of the book “Moon Palace” the author

Paul Auster introduces his main character Marco who looks back at his childhood and tells how he runs out of money during college time. Marco Stanley Fogg called M.S. loses his mother through a bus accident when he is eleven. Since his father’s identity is unknown, he grows up with his uncle Victor who is a success less musician. During his time at the Columbia University of New York M.S. spends too much money when his uncle dies of a heart attack. That is why he sells the inherited books of Victor. To lower his expenses he starves himself into a delirious state of weakness. When he looks for his former college mate Zimmer, he meets a Chinese student named Kitty Wu who has one breakfast with him. At the end of the chapter M.S. has to leave his apartment because he has not been able to pay the rent anymore.
